((This is an entry for Seventh Sanctum's Anime Mania contest; I had to take a generated Anime name (I got Rage Mind), and make some sort of piece with it. :) ))

Rage Mind (2008). Created when author Ivy Creighton made the sad sad mistake of thinking about what happens after death.

Description: In the city of Purgatory, a hellish place between Heaven and Hell, the fate of the dead is decided. Rage, a reaper, is employed by H.E.L.L. (Horatio's Eternal Life Locationing) as a grim reaper. His job is to hunt down the souls of the dead and 'transport' them to their eternal resting place. Rage was living a lie, however; he thought that he was only hunting the souls of those who deserved hell; but his boss, Horatio, was sending him against all people, including innocents. However, Rage becomes aware when an Archangel, Mike, shows him what is happening after Rage sends the souls to the flames.

Despite having nothing in common, Rage and Mike team up to go after the big fish in the pond; Horatio himself. But even with Rage's inside knowledge of the workings of H.E.L.L., will they be able to overcome Horatio and fix the injustice of Purgatory?

Characters:
Rage: A grim reaper who hunts down the souls of the dead and sends them to the internment camp (hell). He hunts with a giant scythe; the eyes that connect the blade to the shaft change from blue to red when Rage is hunting or angry. Rage is rather lazy by nature, and likes spending time wandering away from downtown Purgatory or up to the tops of buildings to listen to his music.

Mike: A member of the elite group A.R.C. (Angel Resistance Core), and was sent down from the 'Big Man Upstairs' to help with the situation in Purgatory. He is captured by Rage, but shows the reaper what happens to the souls after he captures them. Mike is by nature a leader, and follows instructions to the letter, which makes it difficult for Rage (by nature sloppy and lazy) to work with him.

Horatio: The leader of the company H.E.L.L., and is the one making all the profit behind sending the souls to the internment camp. The main villain of the series and the goal of Rage and Mike is to assassinate him.

The piece would be a poster or chapter cover for the series.

Hope you enjoy! :)

Yours is the best out of any I've seen so far. You'd better win nothing less than first place.

Thank you so much! That's a very kind thing of you to say. ;3;

I have my fingers crossed, but there's still a lot of time left for new entries. :) I'll probably submit another for competition and a few 'for fun'. It feeds my procrastination. XD

Heh, I plan to enter but I probably can't compete. xD (Notice not a single black and white entry has ever one in the past)

I simply love the coloring scheme on your art the best. It's just fantastic.^^

Interesting concept, though it sounds a little like Bleach.

I just wonder: Why would you need a hellish place that's not hell? I've always pictured Purgatory as just kind of bland and boring.

Crap, I didn't realize it sounded so much like Bleach. D: I've never watched/read that plot, but I looked up a summary and it does sound so similar. ;3; But I feel that it's different enough, at least in my head. :3

Well, the Purgatory I depict here isn't actually the Purgatory I believe exists; I of Purgatory more as a waiting room to get to heaven, not necessarily an inbetween. I don't think there's a road to hell from Purgatory.

But enough about my beliefs; in the context of the plot, I try to show Purgatory more as a limbo, where your soul is up for grabs, and I think it would suck not knowing where you're going. So it's more of a psychological hell than a physical one.

It is different enough in the details, true :D

If it's like a limbo, why not just call it Limbo? Other than the fact that Purgatory sounds cooler, of course. And with anime the Rule of Cool generally wins out.

Yeah, that's the only reason; Purgatory just generally sounds cooler. :) I have a whoooole other concept for a place specifically referred to as 'limbo', but that's a whole other plot. XD
